Steven Lee Herren, gentleman, philosopher, and total hunk, died on December 12, 2016, at the age of twenty-four.
His first entrepreneurial efforts manifested as early as grade school, when he produced and sold illustrations to the highest bidders among his peers. He was a dedicated friend, giving a foot massage to his buddy with a broken leg, volunteering to protect his boys and take the fall when they were caught red-handed, and was always ready for an adventure.
Steven studied the Tao, watched countless films, and played video games with a passion. He starred in his middle school musical, and then later completed the training regimen that prepares Navy Seal candidates for hell week. His specialty was A/V production, and he aspired to produce music.
In his short life, Steven got to see some of the world:
Puerto Rico with his Dad and sister, Laura a few times.
London, England when we went to see Laura in a play at the Old Vic Theatre.
Bermuda – two times with family to stay at his Aunt’s house.
In his short time, Steven read lots of books, listened to lots of music, made us laugh, made us cry, made us mad, and made us love him.
He was a young man just coming into himself, learning who he was and what he was capable of. At the same time, he was fighting so hard against terrible demons. He expected so much from the people around him, and it made us better. His expectations of himself were far too high - they were unreachable, but he reached anyway.
Steven died of an accidental fentanyl overdose.
Steven will be remembered for many things, but especially for his cleverness, his loyalty, and his big heart.
